Small-sample labels explained

Yellow flags are reserved for very small samples: 3 games/appearances/meetings or fewer; 10 unblocked 5v5 attempts or fewer; 5 PP attempts or fewer in either season; 2 attempts or fewer in an individual zone; 10 SOG or fewer in shooting histories. These display flags show sample size; they do not change projections or rankings.

Red elevated-stat flags explained

Red underlined stats and red labels identify elevated values to review: team PP minutes more than 30% above league average within the first 10 games. Individual player shooting rates are not flagged. Tap a red value or label for its baseline and sample. These review thresholds are not a guarantee of regression and do not change projections or ranks. Yellow labels continue to identify very small samples.

Saturday, October 24 · 12 games. Goalies: Daily Faceoff checked 8:03 PM ET: 20 of 24 confirmed (Lukas Dostal (ANA), Joseph Woll (PHI), Anton Forsberg (LAK), Jake Allen (NJD), Pyotr Kochetkov (CAR), Joel Hofer (STL), Juuse Saros (NSH), Dylan Garand (NYR), Jonas Johansson (OTT), Alex Nedeljkovic (SJS), Jeremy Swayman (BOS), Carter Hart (VGK), Cam Talbot (CBJ), Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (BUF), Charlie Lindgren (WSH), Anthony Stolarz (TOR), Tristan Jarry (EDM), Jesper Wallstedt (MIN), John Gibson (DET), Devin Cooley (CGY)); 3 likely; 1 unconfirmed. Confirmed-only goalie adjustments apply where matching stats exist (19 starts); Ottawa's confirmed Jonas Johansson has no matching goalie statistics in this snapshot, so its factor remains neutral. NHL.com published projected forward lines and defensive pairs for all 12 October 24 games. This snapshot contains no loaded line or pair rows, and current-slate PP roles and metrics are unverified; line, pair and PP rankings and adjustments remain unavailable. Missing BTB unit, exposure and PP components use a neutral 50. These are projected reports, not confirmed dressing lists. Projection inputs for player, team, goalie and shot-location metrics remain through October 21. Per-player recent-game charts were separately refreshed from NHL GameCenter boxscores and play-by-play through October 23; attempts include SOG, misses and blocks, excluding shootouts. Estimates remain provisional.

BOARD GUIDE

How to use the NHL board

A quick guide to the four sections and the player breakdowns.

Choose a board

BTB Scores ranks players with our experimental composite score. Its tabs sort the same eligible player pool by BTB Score, Model Goal, Model SOG, or Combined List. The score is a ranking tool, not a probability.

Build Your Own Model lets you set your own ranking weights. Line Strength shows forward lines, power-play units, and defensive pairs. SOG Probabilities converts Model SOG into chances of reaching shot totals; read its yellow sample and calibration note alongside the numbers.

Filter and inspect

Choose a matchup, search for a player or team, filter by position, or use your watchlist. Tap any player row to open the full breakdown and review the projection inputs, role, matchup context, and sample sizes.

Read the player models

Model SOG is the shots-per-game projection. It uses the current SOG model and player rate blend, with current 5-on-5 and power-play roles plus opponent and shot-chart context. H2H and other labeled context are informational and are not added a second time.

Model Goal is a separate scoring estimate based on the goal model. Goalie adjustments apply only when the starter is confirmed. Missing or unconfirmed inputs should be treated as uncertainty, not as zero.
